On the bus

“Draw anything. Draw the dishes on the table while you are waiting for your breakfast. Draw the people in the station while you are waiting for your train. Look at everything. It is all part of your world.”

–Edward Austin Abbey

Until very recently, I rode the local bus to work; about a fifteen minute trip each way. Years ago, intrigued by the passengers absorbed in their thoughts, sleeping or otherwise occupying themselves, I would sometimes sketch them. I began to look forward to the almost daily opportunities and before I knew it, I had filled a half-dozen sketchbooks. Besides being very gratifying, the short-duration challenge has sharpened my observation and drawing skills and been lots of fun. See more on my blog page (link opens in new window).
